A young woman lives a life filled with bad choices in this gritty portrayal of life on the breadline in the late Sixties. Married to a physically and emotionally abusive criminal, 18-year-old Joy is left alone to bring up their young son when Tom is sent to prison for theft. Clutching at any chance of happiness, she finds comfort with Tom's associate Dave, but their idyllic romance is shattered when he also is incarcerated.
